Dr Michael Mosley goes missing as police fear This Morning star 'fell from height' during walk on Greek island

A search has been launched for Dr Michael Mosley, who went missing after failing to return from a walk on the Greek island of Symi.

The diet guru, 67, well known to viewers for his appearances on This Morning, left for a hike at 1.30pm yesterday but never returned.

His wife, Dr Clare Bailey, raised the alarm at 7.30pm on Wednesday amid police fears he may have fallen from a height while hiking along St Nicholas beach on the island.

Local authorities in Symi traced the route that Dr. Michael was likely to have taken during the night, but were unable to locate him. Search and rescue teams from the Greek capital, Athens, have been mobilized to assist in the search, with high-tech equipment including drones helping with the efforts.

Police spokeswoman Constantina Dimoglidou said: “He was on Ag. Nikolas beach with another couple when he decided to return home to the Pedi district of Symi. He was around 1:30 p.m. and he left his phone on the beach All attempts to find it yielded no results.

“We have now asked the firefighters to assist in the operation in case he slipped, tripped, fell, or even got bitten by a snake, remaining injured somewhere.”

He added: “There is simply no trace of him. None at all and that means that for us at least, all potential scenarios are open and being investigated.”

The local community is appealing for information, posting a photo of the star wearing sunglasses and writing: “'Have you seen this man? He left St Nick's on foot at around 1.30pm and did not make it to return to his place.

“His friends are worried because they haven't seen him for 6 hours. His name is Dr Mike Mosley and he is a familiar face to many Brits having appeared on the BBC.”

As well as appearing on This Morning, Dr Michael is well known for his 5:2 diet, in which people cut calories for two days while maintaining their normal diet for the rest.
