More than 70 people on motorbikes have come together to make a 16-year-old's trip to his prom unforgettable, after his mother launched an appeal on social media.

Jade, from Swadlincote, Derbyshire, posted a message on the Midlands Motorbikers group on Facebook asking people to accompany her 16-year-old son Jack to his prom.

She told the group that their transport had failed and that they were going to travel from the Millhouse pub in Burton-on-Trent to Burton Albion football club.

“There were 10 people with bikes when we arrived. More came, and more came, and in the end I think we counted 73,” Jade said.

She said Jack had been bullied because of his weight for many years and so she wanted to make the event memorable.

“It was difficult with Jack, especially in the early years of high school,” she told BBC Radio Derby.

“These scars are there forever.

“It was kind of the grand finale for me, so I was like, you know what, let's try to make this a little bit special,” she added.

The 73 riders followed Jack, who was riding on the back of his father-in-law's motorbike, from the Millhouse pub to Burton Albion Football Club.

“I was really upset, I spent my whole evening crying, it was very emotional,” Jade said.

“He had the biggest smile of the night, he was pretty calm. I don't think he knew what to say.”

A video on social media showed the escort arriving at the club, as dozens of people took photos and videos.

“I don’t have enough words to tell them. It wasn’t just the bikers, a lady came up and offered us free photos,” Jade said.

“Jack will never forget that night. I am truly honored and grateful.”
