Around 12:15 p.m., fire crews responded to reports of a fire at Brant Performance Horses in the 8000 block of State Route 638, Logan County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Joe Kopus confirmed to News Center 7.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the 60,000 square foot facility fully involved. Crews called on several mutual aid partners to fight the fire.

“It was not possible to safely enter the entire building. There are living quarters inside. They had an equestrian arena inside, and it was all fully involved…We couldn’t get in,” said Richland Township Deputy Fire Chief Jason Johns.

Johns said he didn't have an official count yet, but at least 60 horses were trapped inside.

“I heard there were still between 60 and 90 horses inside. I don’t have an official count yet and none of them are out,” Johns said.

Kelsey Snipes said she keeps horses at the facility and is familiar with Brant Performance Horses.

“I used to train as well as barrel race, but I have friends who work there,” Snipes said.

Snipes said she sympathizes with everyone who needs to know about what happened.

“Getting that phone call or seeing that on the news or in the pictures on Facebook and realizing it’s the perfect place,” Snipes said.

She said she's confident the owners will pick up all the pieces and rebuild the facility.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
