Dozens of DUI and BUI arrests made over the weekend: Hillsborough Sheriff

Over the Memorial Day weekend, deputies made dozens of arrests for drunk driving and BUI, issued hundreds of citations and warnings, the Hillsborough sheriff said.



HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — Dozens of people were arrested for driving and boating under the influence and hundreds received warnings and citations during Memorial Day weekend patrols, according to a news release from the office from the Hillsborough County Sheriff.

During patrols Saturday and Sunday, 367 traffic stops resulted in 34 citations and 333 warnings to motorists, as well as the arrests of 38 people for driving under the influence.

The HCSO Marine Unit also made 17 vessel arrests, resulting in 26 written warnings and 10 citations, as well as two vessel under the influence arrests, the agency said.

Deputies continued patrols through Monday, although those numbers have not yet been released.

“Our deputies made significant arrests for DUI and BUI over the Memorial Day weekend, demonstrating our commitment to keeping Hillsborough County safe,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “It is never acceptable to drive drunk, and if you do, rest assured that we will catch you and you will face the consequences. We are here to protect our citizens and ensure that everyone can enjoy the holidays responsibly and safely.”
