Dozens of boys have fun outdoors at Caddo Sheriff Camp 2024

STONEWALL, La. (KSLA) – Forty-five boys from Caddo Parish are participating in the 2024 Caddo Sheriff's Camp at the Kinsey Scout Reservation this year.

“This is a great opportunity for local children to experience the outdoors while getting to know our deputies,” said Sheriff Jay Long.

The four-day camp is open to boys ages 9 to 12. It is free and made possible thanks to private donations collected by the sheriff. The Boy Scouts of America, now known as Scouting America, provides food, tents, activities and staff members. Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office deputies serve as mentors in the camp, which rewards underserved boys in the parish for good behavior and academic achievement. The camp also introduces boys to Scouting America.

The camp aims to develop the leadership skills of participating boys and promote their involvement in Scouting by introducing them to outdoor activities such as camping, swimming, archery and marksmanship.

“I wanted to come back because I just wanted to meet my friends and see what else Sheriff Camp had planned for us and also just have fun,” said Bentley Nall, a 3rd grade camper.

“I really enjoyed swimming. I've always been kind of a swimmer. Of course, I loved archery and BB guns,” said River Howell, a first-year camper.
