Downtown Houston search unfolds on Commerce near Austin Street, causing UHD campus to be locked down, authorities say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Multiple law enforcement agencies are involved in a one-person search in downtown Houston that prompted a lockdown of a nearby college campus Thursday afternoon.

SkyEye flew over Commerce Street near Austin Street, where units from the Houston Police Department and Harris County Sheriff's Office were located.

Police did not provide many details to ABC13 other than confirming that they set up a command post on San Jacinto Street.

HCSO said a search for someone was underway, but did not say who that person is or why the search is taking place.

Additionally, the University of Houston-Downtown issued an alert to students and staff, warning them to “go indoors immediately,” “lock exterior doors” and avoid windows.

ABC13 continues to report on the impact of traffic on downtown police activity. Watch Eyewitness News this afternoon for updates.
