Double shooting in Hayward leaves teen in serious condition

HAYWARD — An 18-year-old Pleasanton man is in serious condition after being shot Thursday evening while driving in Hayward with a friend, police said Saturday.

The 17-year-old boy who was injured, also a Pleasanton resident, has since been released from the hospital, police said.

The shooting happened around 11:11 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Industrial Parkway.

The two victims were alone in the vehicle. Police are trying to determine why they were in Hayward, Officer Cassondra Fovel said.

After being shot, the two men were able to go to the area of ​​the 100 block of W. Tennyson Road where the 17-year-old called 911, authorities said.

Both victims were taken to a hospital where the younger one was treated and released.

The 18-year-old is in serious condition and remains on life support, authorities said.

Police are trying to determine the motive for the shooting. No arrests have been made.

Police said there is no indication at this time that the shooting and the one that happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 24000 block of Second Street, which left one 13-year-old boy dead and another injured at the Rodeo, are connected. But police said it is something detectives are looking into.
