Double kidnapping and assault in Colorado Springs, affidavit | Crime and justice

The arrest affidavit for one of the suspects responsible for a double kidnapping and assault in Colorado Springs gave an apparent motive and additional details about the violent interaction.

According to information obtained by The Gazette on Monday, an officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department received a report of a suspected kidnapping at the Arbor Point Apartments in Colorado Springs.

The reporter, a Colorado Springs resident, told police from his bed at Memorial Central Hospital that he and his girlfriend had been kidnapped, held captive for more than a day at gunpoint and attacked several times.

The responding officer noted the victim's multiple injuries, including multiple lacerations to the back of his head, a swollen right eye socket, scratches to his face and arms, bruising to both knees and an orbital fracture, according to the arrest record.

The male victim told police that on Saturday evening, the male victim and his girlfriend were staying at a friend's residence in the apartment complex located at 2503 Hancock Expressway in Colorado Springs.

According to the arrest record, the man told police that a group of residents at the complex were angry at him and his girlfriend for allegedly speaking with police, resulting in a person known to the suspect in prison.

Among this group, the man identified two of the residents involved in the conflict as Linda Guest and Joseary Arizmendi.

The man went on to tell police that the group, consisting of Guest and Arizmendi as well as two others, confronted the couple at their friend's apartment, wearing black masks and armed with handguns.

Records say the male victim told police he and his girlfriend were taken at gunpoint to another residence in the apartment complex, separated into different rooms and continually hit in the head with a gun and fists.

Both victims told police that the group took turns attacking them while they were being held captive.

Additionally, the male victim told police that a glass beer bottle was smashed over his head and that he was struck several times in the head with a baseball bat.

The female victim described the assault to authorities as being “beaten like a pinata.” She told police she did not remember how many times she was hit with a handgun or baseball bat, adding that she “blacked out” several times during the assault.

Although neither the male nor female victims were subdued, they were held at gunpoint and told multiple times that they would be killed if they tried to escape, according to arrest records.

The victim told police the two men were taken outside the apartment complex and ordered to dig their graves. That's when her boyfriend was able to escape the suspects and get help from authorities.

The male victim told police he ran away and hid in a ditch in a dumpster area behind the apartment complex, where he passed out and slept until next morning.

The next day, he first went to a friend's house, who helped him order a rideshare to a nearby hospital, records show.

Authorities say police returned to the alleged victim's apartment where the alleged victim was discovered. Additionally, investigators found the victim's cell phones and clothing.

Based on the uncovered evidence and interviews with victims and witnesses regarding the kidnapping and assault, investigators developed probable cause to arrest Guest and Arizmendi.

According to his arrest affidavit, Arizmendi faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault, second-degree kidnapping and grand larceny.

Guest's arrest affidavit was not available as of press time.
