(FOX40.COM) — California is set to open its new state park on Wednesday, June 12.

Dos Rios is located at the confluence of the Tuolumne River and the San Joaquin River in the Central Valley, approximately eight miles west of Modesto.

The California Department of Parks and Recreation said the park would not have an entrance fee initially, but a fee structure would be considered later.

The agency suggests hiking, bird watching or a picnic in the park. He also said he is working to create better river access in the park to allow swimming, angling, boating and other water activities.

The agency said it will host events in the park, such as stargazing and campfire programs.

The park was once agricultural land but now serves as a floodplain.

“Dos Rios provides the perfect habitat for several protected species such as the scrub rabbit, riparian woodrat, Swainson's hawk, Central Valley chinook salmon, rainbow trout, red vireo Bell, Yellow Warbler and Sandhill Crane,” the California Department of Parks and Recreation says on its website.
