BOSTON (WHDH) – A Dorchester man is facing charges after allegedly breaking into a woman's home while she was there late last week.

George Correa, 64, was arrested Friday evening in the area of Marlborough Street, according to police. He appeared in court on Monday and entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.

Boston police, in a statement, said officers first responded around 10:15 p.m. Friday and spoke with a woman who told them she was about to go to bed when she had seen a man she did not know inside her house.

Police said the woman told investigators she ran downstairs. Around the same time, she said she thought the stranger ran upstairs and left her house from the roof deck.

Police fanned out and searched for the person, eventually finding an open window on the first floor of a nearby construction site. Boston police said officers searched the construction site and found a backpack that matched the description of a backpack the person was carrying.

Police said officers quickly found a man on Marlborough Street matching the description of the unknown man. He was lying in some bushes and had a screwdriver near him, police said.

Officers eventually arrested the man and recovered the stolen jewelry, cash and “personal items” belonging to the victim.

Boston police said Correa was charged with breaking and entering a building at night to commit a felony, possession of a burglary instrument, possession of a class B drug, theft from a building and person arrested having provided false identity information to law enforcement.

At his arraignment, the prosecution requested that Correa be held on $50,000 cash bail.

The defense requested a lower bail.

Citing a history of convictions on similar charges, the judge said the prosecution's bail request was too low and instead set cash bail at $100,000.

Correa is due back in court on July 8.
