Don't worry, Ubisoft knows that XDefiant weapon progression is slow too

No matter how many bunny hops and fancy shots you do XDefiant, because weapon XP remains a grueling experience at the best of times. We all want to unlock those sweet mastery rewards or nifty attachments, and Ubisoft knows you want to advance quickly. With new adjustments coming XDefiant Weapon XP Soon, executive producer Mark Rubin reveals what PS5 and Xbox players can expect in the future.

In a recent social media thread, Rubin explains the rationale behind XDefiant's XP systems, especially when it comes to creating the best XDefiant loadouts in the arena. “People were unlocking attachments more slowly than we estimated. Faster leveling is an answer to that,” says Rubin. To keep the XDefiant meta balanced in Ubisoft's hit FPS game, Rubin reiterates that “weapon mastery, on the other hand, does not affect gameplay and is meant to be something special that shows your dedication to a weapon.” And so the level rebalancing was a response to that.

Similar to other multiplayer games like Embark Studios' The Finals, mastery rewards are purely cosmetic and do not provide players with any statistical advantage on the battlefield. However, equipping your favorite XDefiant classes with specific weapons has been a somewhat painful ordeal since the game's launch.

Unless you're absolutely dominating XDefiant's lobbies for hours, getting access to some of the most beneficial scopes, grips, and magazines isn't a quick process. Of course, we don't expect Ubisoft to give us everything at once, but the feeling of progression is worth its weight in gold for any decent shooter.

It will, however, be a steady path toward a complete overhaul, as Rubin says: “This whole system is being remade to be more appealing to everyone.” It will be a few seasons before we see this, but we will now look at the feedback to improve our future implementation. »

In a follow-up response to the XDefiant player base on PS5 and Xbox, Rubin adds: “I don't disagree that there needs to be more progression. Prestige is coming”, alongside “other forms of progression” in the future.

With a Prestige system coming to the game, it's likely that players will have an entirely different range of daily and/or weekly quests to complete. If they all yield nice rewards, then that could add to the sense of leveling up that XDefiant sorely needs right now.
