Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office investigates fatal shooting at Gadsden High School

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Gadsden High School was placed on lockdown Friday due to a shooting outside the school Friday that left one person dead.

No students were on campus Friday as the school year ended Thursday, according to a news release from the Gadsden Independent School District. No staff members were injured.

According to the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Office, early stages of the investigation suggest the shooting may have been the result of road rage.

According to DASO, at approximately 12:42 p.m., DASO received a call from a Gadsden High School security guard and another witness regarding a man injured in the road. Responding officers found an adult man unconscious. Rescue measures were attempted, but the man died at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.

According to witnesses, two vehicles entered the high school parking lot. An older man got out of his car and a younger man got out of another vehicle. The younger man had something in his hand and was pointing it at the other driver. Witnesses saw the victim fall to the ground and the younger man got back into a white pickup truck and left the scene on Highway 28 eastbound.
