Dolev Yehud: Israeli missing in Hamas attack found dead | World News

A man believed to have been taken hostage during the Hamas attack on October 7 has been found dead, the Israeli army announced.

The body of Dolev Yehud, a 35-year-old volunteer doctor, was found in the border village where he lived.

After what he described as lengthy forensic analyses, from Israel The army confirmed that the remains belonged to Mr Yehud, whose name was also spelled Yehud.

It was said that he was among dozens of residents of kibbutz Nir Oz killed.

Mr Yehud's wife Sigal, who was nine months pregnant on October 7, gave birth to their fourth child nine days after the attack, according to Israeli media.

Around 1,200 people were killed in communities in southern Israel during the Hamas attack and around 250 people were taken hostage.

Israeli bombings and ground operations in Gaza have killed more than 36,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry, which does not distinguish between fighters and civilians.

After the Yehud announcement, the Israeli government said 120 hostages remained in Gaza, following the release of more than 100 people as part of a truce with Hamas in late November.

Of these, 39 were declared dead in absentia by Israel, based on witness testimony, forensic analysis and intelligence.

This comes after tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Tel Aviv this weekend to call for the resignation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the immediate release of the hostages.

Thousands demand Netanyahu's resignation

About 120,000 people took to the streets to call on the governing coalition to accept the ceasefire deal presented by US President Joe Biden on Friday, in what would have been the largest demonstration against Mr. Netanyahu.

The agreement would provide for the staggered release of hostages captured during the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, in exchange for the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.
