Divers recover body of man from Norton Reservoir after search – NBC Boston

Divers found the body of a missing man in a reservoir in Norton, Massachusetts, Monday evening while he was boating with two other men.

Norton police said they received a 911 call around 7:30 p.m. Monday reporting he had jumped from the back of a boat into the water and did not reappear.

The man, whose name has not been released, left in a boat around 6:30 p.m. with two other men, who called 911 about an hour later to report that the third man had jumped from the back of a boat in the water and did not reappear. . They told police they threw a life jacket to the man in the water, but he did not grab it before diving below the surface and they failed to save him.

Deputy Chief Todd Jackson said earlier Monday that they do not yet have a positive identification of the missing man, saying that at first glance it appears the other two men could have worked with him but did not. did not know enough to provide it. a positive identification to the police.

The boat belongs to one of two men who called 911, Jackson said, adding that he didn't know if they were fishing or just boating Monday night. Fire Chief Shawn Simmons thanked Norton police and their mutual aid partners for their immediate response.

Norton first responders were assisted by numerous neighboring agencies, including the Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, Norton Emergency Management and the Metropolitan Enforcement Council (METRO-LEC). Several dive teams also responded, including the Bristol North Regional Dive Team and the Cumberland, Rhode Island Dive Team.

A state police helicopter assisted in the search.
