Directed fire at Beale Air Force Base on Tuesday, June 11

Beale AFB, California –A 140 acres prescribed burning is planned for June 11, 2024 at Beale Air Force Base. This prescribed burn will take place near Doolittle Gate and Hammonton Smartsville Road.

The intent of this prescribed burn is to promote natural vegetation regeneration, reduce hazardous and flammable fuels, and eliminate invasive plant species.

Prescribed burn operations will begin when areas reach prescriptive levels that meet the objectives of the prescribed burn plan.

The Air Force will only initiate burns under favorable weather conditions, including humidity, temperature, wind speed and direction, and vegetation moisture.

Fire crews conduct small test fires before lighting the larger area to check how efficiently vegetation (fuels) will be consumed to ensure burning and smoke management objectives can be achieved .

Beale's Air Quality Manager and Wildland Fire and Fuels Specialist are working diligently with the Feather River Air Quality Management Districts to minimize smoke impacts on residents and surrounding communities.

During active shooter operations, firefighters and vehicles working nearby will be visible to the public. Motorists are reminded to slow down and drive with increased caution when traveling through active project areas.
