Diesel tanker truck catches fire in DeSoto, evacuated residents allowed to return

DeSOTO – A diesel fuel tanker caught fire Friday afternoon at W Parkerville Road and S Cockrell Hill Road, prompting the evacuation of nearby residents.

The fire, initially reported around 4 p.m., was extinguished shortly after 5:40 p.m. Residents were allowed to return to their homes. The intersection will remain closed until the scene is cleared.

Earlier, an evacuation notice was immediately sent to residents from W Parkerville Road to Summerside Drive to the north, Richard Pittman Drive to the south, Elerson Road to the east and Keswick Drive to the west.

“Leave the area due to a diesel fuel fire at W Parkerville Rd and S Cockrell Hill Rd; avoid intersections if possible,” the City of DeSoto said on Facebook.
