Detroit man charged with human trafficking in Madison Heights

MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) — A Detroit man is behind bars after being arrested on human trafficking and prostitution charges in Oakland County.

Kevin Johnson, 31, was charged Friday with several crimes, including criminal sexual conduct and human trafficking causing injury, according to the Madison Heights Police Department.

Johnson allegedly trafficked at least two people for prostitution, sexually assaulted one survivor at least twice, and physically assaulted her. Authorities have not released any further details about the human trafficking and prostitution allegations.

Johnson's arrest in Madison Heights came after an investigation involving the Michigan State Police and Homeland Security task forces.

Johnson was charged with one count of torture and two counts each of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, prostitution/transportation of person, prostitution/acceptance of income and human trafficking enterprise causing injury.

Torture and CSC charges are both crimes punishable by up to life in prison, while prostitution charges are 20-year felonies and human trafficking a 15-year felony. years.

Johnson was also charged with battery, a 93-day misdemeanor.

Johnson was given a $750,000 cash bond. He remained in custody at the Oakland County Jail as of Monday morning.
