Detroit man accused of fatally shooting girlfriend, injuring son charged

A Detroit man accused of fatally shooting his 19-year-old girlfriend and injuring their 3-year-old son has been charged, officials said.

Virgil Dan Brown, 22, was arraigned Sunday in Detroit's 36th District Court on multiple charges, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday.

He was charged with first-degree murder, assault with intent to kill, second-degree child abuse, carrying a concealed weapon and three counts of using a firearm during of a crime.

A magistrate ordered Brown held without bail and set his next court hearing for Monday, according to authorities.

If convicted, he faces life in prison for the murder charge and up to life in prison for the assault with intent to kill charge.

Court records do not list an attorney for Brown.
