Detectives Investigate Shooting in Rehoboth Restaurant Parking Lot – Delaware State Police

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of Big Chill Surf Cantina in Rehoboth early this morning.

On June 28, 2024, at approximately 12:51 a.m., troopers responded to the Big Chill Surf Cantina located at 19406 Coastal Highway in Rehoboth for a report of a shooting. While responding to the scene, troopers received reports of a 27-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg at a nearby hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was part of a group of multiple subjects involved in a physical altercation in the restaurant’s parking lot. During the altercation, an unknown black male suspect pulled a handgun from a bag and fired one shot at the victim. Following the shooting, all subjects involved in the altercation fled the scene. The victim was transported to the hospital by private vehicle, where he was treated and released.

Through investigative means, detectives identified the suspect responsible for the shooting as being 28 years old. Jonathan Blackwell of Milford, Delaware. Detectives have obtained an arrest warrant for Blackwell on multiple misdemeanor charges. Attempts to locate Blackwell (pictured below) are still ongoing.
