Deputies investigating 2 separate shootings in Ginnie Springs over Memorial Day weekend

HIGH SPRINGS, Florida. – The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office says it is investigating two separate shootings that occurred in Ginnie Springs over Memorial Day weekend.

Deputies say the first shooting happened Friday night, and the second shooting happened Saturday night.

On Sunday, police said they were investigating an attempted murder that occurred Saturday around 11:30 p.m. on the roadway inside the park, between the Devil's Source and the Tube Launch.

Deputies described an “exceptional subject” as a woman in her 20s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, fit and muscular with long braids and lightly tinted contact lenses. She also wore a green bikini top or a dark multi-colored patterned top and bikini bottoms or shorts.

The investigation led to the temporary closure of the park. However, Ginnie Springs posted on its website and social media accounts Monday that the park was back open for daily entry and normal operations would resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Gilchrist County deputies and Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials are investigating both incidents.

No additional details were released “to maintain the integrity of ongoing investigations,” deputies said.

“What can be released immediately is that the men and women of GCSO and neighboring law enforcement worked tirelessly, around the clock, for days to investigate these horrific crimes and bring those responsible to justice in court,” the sheriff’s office said. wrote.
