LUCAMA — The Wilson County Sheriff's Office has charged a Lucama man and a teenager with attempted murder following a May 31 shooting near Lucama City Park.

Jaylen Brodrick Moore, 22, of the 7100 block of Oscar Loop Road, was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted first-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling, according to Chief of Staff Wanda Samuel of the County Attorney's Office. Wilson County Sheriff.

Samuel said the shooting happened at 5 p.m. on May 31.

“Officers were dispatched to a home on Blalock Road in Lucama following a shooting at an occupied residence,” Samuel said. “Once the police arrived on scene, we learned that several minors had been shot while playing volleyball in the Lucama municipal park.”

The park is located on the corner of Main Street and Blalock Road.

“A stray bullet hit a window of a family home which was occupied by two adults and three children at the time of the incident,” Samuel said. “The bullet went through the walls of the house and was recovered by detectives in one of the children’s bedrooms.”

Samuel said detectives interviewed several people the night of the shooting.

“It was learned that the incident stemmed from an argument the previous night between juveniles over a stray dog,” Samuel said. “A 17-year-old minor was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder at the request of a minor.”

Officers took the suspect to the Greenville Juvenile Detention Center.

Samuel said Moore was arrested without incident Thursday when detectives executed a search warrant at a home in the 7400 block of Oscar Loop Road.

Moore is currently being held without bail at the Wilson County Detention Center.
