Denver area firefighters respond to multiple fires on July 4

DENVER (KDVR) — Crews were busy battling multiple fires in the Denver metro area Thursday night.

A higher number of fires was expected. Dry, warm weather conditions and the holiday season created wildfire risks and led to fire warnings just days before July 4.

At 8:40 p.m., Aurora firefighters were on the scene of a small prairie fire in the 16000 block of 40th Circle. No one was injured and the fire was under control by 8:44 p.m.

The Arvada Fire Department and West Metro Fire Department responded to a grass fire north of Interstate 76 near Marshall Street, and the fire was contained, AFD said at 9:37 p.m.

Aurora firefighters were on the scene of another fire at 10:16 p.m. in the 100 block of Sable Boulevard. The AFR asked people to avoid the area.

At 10:56 p.m., AFR issued an update on X stating that the fire was under control and crews remained on scene to extinguish hot spots. No injuries were reported.

DCSO: 'Numerous' fires caused by illegal fireworks

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said it has received “numerous calls regarding grass fires caused by illegal fireworks” and asked residents to celebrate safely.

The DCSO recommends celebrating with a professional fireworks show.
