Delaware State Fire Marshal investigates Millsboro fire | Latest news

SUSSEX COUNTY, DE – The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating an early morning fire in Millsboro Saturday.

On Saturday, June 1, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company reported that several fire crews were alerted to a fire at a residential structure in 24220 Big Oak Lane in Millsboro, Delaware. The incident was believed to have been a fire at the rear of the terrace of the residence. Initial crews identified the fire as an exterior fire, with flames also coming through the roof of the structure.

Indian River Volunteer Fire Company said “crews were asked to establish a water supply, disconnect all utilities to the residential structure and continue defensive fire suppression activities if necessary.” All devices were requested to provide water and establish a water supply process to mitigate the incident. “.

Authorities say it appears a waterfront residential structure was fully involved in a fire when first responders arrived, causing significant damage to the structure. The structure has been identified as habitable, according to the IRVFC.

A firefighter was injured during the incident. They were transported to a nearby medical facility for further observation.

The IRVFC says that “It is extremely possible that the fire was caused by the use of an outdoor fireplace the evening before,” but the Delaware State Fire Marshal continues to investigate the incident.
