Defendant sentenced to prison for fleeing police, throwing out evidence – Examiner Online

A defendant convicted in April of multiple charges following a two-day jury trial was sentenced to prison.

Brandon Whitt, 37, was sentenced to three years in prison for charges including tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony; aggravated possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree; and failure to comply with law enforcement, a first-degree misdemeanor.

The charges are the result of a traffic stop conducted on September 5, 2022 by officers with the Washington Township Police Department. A Washington Township officer on patrol in the area of State Route 708 and Chestnut near Orchard Island observed a vehicle driven by a known suspended driver, Whitt.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in an alley between Park and Crescent Streets in Orchard Island. However, officers noticed the driver looking at the patrol car and continued driving, ignoring the officer's emergency lights and siren.

The driver, Whitt, allegedly took off at high speed down the driveway, throwing gravel and nearly losing control.

The officers continued to pursue Whitt down the alley, eventually stopping. Whitt jumped out of his vehicle with his hands in the air when he was immediately handcuffed.

When asked why he did not stop, the accused told police that he was afraid.
A passenger inside the vehicle was unhurt. While searching the vehicle, officers discovered a black bag containing five bags of marijuana. Officers also found blue latex gloves and noticed one glove with one finger cut off.

Officers conducted a thorough search of the area where Whitt exited his vehicle and recovered the blue finger of an attached latex glove, containing a white crystalline substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Whitt has an extensive criminal history, including charges dating back to a 2006 burglary conviction and a 2007 breaking and entering charge.
