Decomposed body of missing man found at abandoned US Steel property

The decomposed body of a man missing since April has been found floating in the water of an abandoned US Steel pumping station in Illinois, authorities said.

The Will County Coroner's Office identified the victim in a Facebook post Wednesday, July 3, as Warren Baker, 44.

Three men and a woman exploring the abandoned property in Joliet found Baker's body floating in four to five feet of water around 6:47 p.m. local time, Patch and Fox affiliate WFLD reported.

Joliet police entered a pumping station that had been flooded, Patch reported. Baker's body was later found in an “advanced stage of decomposition,” police told news outlets.

A representative for US Steel told CBS affiliate WBBM-TV that the site was a former property and had been closed for some time.

Baker was reported missing to police on May 13 after his family last saw him on April 28, according to WFLD.

The Joliet Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

“Joliet Police are investigating the incident,” according to the coroner's office. “The cause and final circumstances will be determined after the autopsy, police and toxicology reports.”
