Decatur man arrested after drug bust, leading deputies on chase

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Morgan County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said a man was arrested after a drug bust in Morgan County.

According to MCSO, the Morgan County Sheriff's Drug Enforcement Unit was conducting a narcotics operation near Hwy 31 (6th Ave) and Beltline Rd (Hwy 67).

The sheriff's office said during the operation, Tristian Hunter Couch, 32, of Decatur, led officers on a chase. According to MCSO, Couch was at the center of the operation.

As Couch approached the intersection of Beltline Road and 6th Avenue, Couch ran the red light and struck an 18-wheeler as he entered the intersection.

MCSO tells News 19 that Decatur Fire and Rescue and Decatur Morgan Hospital EMS responded to the scene. Couch was then transported to Decatur-Morgan Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

According to the sheriff's office, Couch was in possession of cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Once released from the hospital, Couch was booked into the Morgan County Jail, charged with:

  • Dangerous drugs-Drug trafficking-Cocaine
  • Dangerous drugs-Drug trafficking-Fentanyl
  • Illegal possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Dangerous drugs-POM 1
  • Attempt to escape from a police officer (Felony)

Couch's bond was set at $23,800.
