WADSWORTH, Ohio (WJW) — The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to the scene of a fatal police-involved shooting Tuesday evening, Wadsworth police said in a news release.

They also said social media posts that the shooting was related to the Wadsworth Blue Tip festival or parade were false.

Police said they attended a house on Durling Drive shortly after 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a man with a gun and threatening to kill himself in his backyard.

Officers said that shortly after arriving on scene, shots were fired. According to an Ohio BCI spokesperson, Wadsworth police officers discharged their duty weapons.

Police sources confirm to the FOX 8 I-Team that the man in his 50s allegedly pointed a gun at a woman and police officers before being shot.

It's unclear how many officers fired shots, or whether the individual involved also fired a weapon.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His age and identity will not be revealed until his family members are informed, police said.

Wadsworth police said the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.

BCI will handle the investigation, which is standard for police-involved shootings.
