Deadly shooting near Mount Trashmore summer carnival

A man and a young girl were both shot dead Saturday evening. They were taken to hospital, where the child died of his injuries.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A man and a young girl were both shot Saturday evening near the Mount Trashmore Park Summer Carnival, Virginia Beach police said. The girl died from her injuries.

The shooting was reported shortly after 8:30 p.m. Police said it did not occur at the carnival itself, but was close enough that emergency and police units could arrive quickly and help. Both victims were taken to hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead.

Police described the shooting as a “chaotic scene.” Officers are working to direct traffic and are in the process of “locating the suspects.”

The ages and names of the victims have not been released at this time, and no information has been released about what may have led to the shooting.

Police tell 13News they are now continuing to search for suspects and evidence, and it remains an active scene.

The Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival kicked off Friday evening and was scheduled to run until June 19.
