Deadly Saginaw shooting leads to police-involved shooting | Crime

Police responding to a shooting call on Cathay Street in Saginaw located the suspect driving with the victim, leading to an officer-involved shooting near the intersection of Holland Road and Outer Drive in Buena Vista Township .



SAGINAW, Mich. (WJRT) – A woman is dead after a shooting in Saginaw Sunday night led to another officer-involved shooting with the suspect.

Michigan State Police said a 63-year-old man shot a 47-year-old woman at a residence in the 1000 block of Cathay Street in east Saginaw around 9:30 p.m. The suspect fled with the victim before police arrived.

Investigators found the suspect's vehicle a short time later near the intersection of Holland Road and Outer Drive in Buena Vista Township.

Michigan State Police said the suspect crashed into a trooper's patrol vehicle. The 63-year-old suspect exchanged gunfire with police before being arrested at the scene and taken to the Saginaw County Jail to await formal charges.

An ambulance transported the 47-year-old woman to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Investigators have not released his identity or any information about the circumstances leading to the shooting Monday morning.

Neither the officer nor the 63-year-old suspect were injured in the shooting.

Police did not identify the suspect Monday morning because he had not been arrested. A Michigan State Police Incident Response Team from the Lansing area will lead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
