Deadly fire at a home on Legend Drive in Dallas, Georgia, on Monday

Firefighters were alerted to the fire around 10:36 a.m. when a man called 911 to say his home on Legend Drive in Dallas was on fire.

DALLAS, Ga. — A 62-year-old woman is now dead after a fire broke out at a Paulding County home early Monday morning, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were alerted to the fire around 10:36 a.m. when a man called 911 to say his home on Legend Drive in Dallas was on fire and his disabled wife was trapped in their second-floor bedroom.

Crews arrived on scene seven minutes after the call, where thick black smoke could be seen coming from the home, according to a news release.

Paulding County Fire and Rescue crews said they finally found the 62-year-old woman after initiating search and rescue efforts.

Shortly after finding the woman, medical staff attempted to save her life, but she unfortunately died.

Paulding County Fire and Rescue, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia State Fire Marshal's Office are all investigating the cause of the fire and incident.

No further details have been released about the woman's identity.
