David Gaudreau charged with murder in shooting death of wife Dale Gaudreau – NECN

A Maine man faces a murder charge after authorities say he fatally shot his wife while she was in a car Tuesday night.

State police said they responded shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday to assist the Oxford County Sheriff's Office following a shooting along Route 108 in Peru.

The sheriff's department had received several 911 calls reporting a car accident. The callers said a truck pulled up next to a car and fired a gun at the vehicle.

First responders arrived and saw a blue Hyundai on the side of the road with a dead woman inside. The woman was later identified as 59-year-old Dale Gaudreau.

Investigators eventually learned that her husband, David Gaudreau, 60, had called several family members and told them he had shot his wife. Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, he turned himself in to state police and the sheriff's department.

He was taken to the Oxford County Jail and charged with murder, state police said.

State police said there was no threat to the public and the incident remained under investigation.

News Center Maine said a section of Highway 108 in Peru was closed Wednesday morning following the investigation into the shooting.

“The 108 is closed until further notice from the intersection of Main Street and Auburn Road to Valley Road. Please be careful!” said the Peru Fire Department in a Facebook post Tuesday evening. They said in a follow-up message at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday that the road had reopened.

Schools in Peru, as well as the RSU 56 towns of Canton, Carthage and Dixfield, were closed Wednesday due to the incident.

“Hello from RSU 56. There will be no school in RSU 56 today, 05/29/24 due to the closure of Route 108 due to the incident that occurred last night at Peru,” the school district said in a post on its website. . “This closure will not change on the last day of school, more information will be released later today.
