Danville man sentenced on child pornography charges | Best Stories

DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) – A Danville man has been convicted of child pornography charges.

On June 10, Daniel Richards was sentenced to nine years in prison by the Illinois Department of Corrections following a contested sentencing hearing.

Richards pleaded guilty April 15 to three counts of possession of child pornography, all Class 2 felonies.

Richards will serve a one-year sentence of mandatory supervised release.

Judge Robert McIntire heard testimony that Illinois State Police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about an Illinois resident who downloaded child pornography on the Internet.

Working with the Attorney General's Office and Vermilion County authorities, Illinois State Police made contact with Richards. Investigators discovered more evidence and obtained a confession from Richards that he possessed and traded several images and videos of child pornography.

State's Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “The rapid response and thorough investigation by the Illinois State Police resulted in the successful prosecution of this case. Child pornography is a serious crime and puts the children depicted in the images in serious danger. »
