Danville man convicted of drugs and weapons | Local News

A convicted felon was convicted and sentenced last week on crack cocaine and gun possession charges.

On Friday, Keynte Davis, 47, of Danville, pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Judge Derek Girton to 14 years in prison for the crime of possession of a controlled substance, a class 1 felony, and 8 years for the crime of illegal possession of a weapon. by a felon on parole, a class 2 felony.

The sentences will be followed by one year of mandatory supervised release on each count.

Judge Girton heard testimony from the state that agents with the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group conducted an investigation that led to search warrants at several residences linked to Davis. Davis was in possession of 161.6 grams of crack cocaine, firearms, magazines and ammunition. Davis was interviewed by VMEG agents and admitted to selling crack cocaine at the two separate residences that were searched.

State's Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group agents for their continued efforts to eliminate illegal drugs from Vermilion County.

She added: “When you are a convicted felon in Illinois, you lose the right to own a firearm. My office will continue to work with our local police departments to obtain tough penalties for individuals who repeatedly engage in illegal activity in order to protect our communities.
