Danny Glover read the script for 'Lethal Weapon 5'

Too old for this bullshit? Well, Danny Glover may be about to return to the Deadly weapon franchise at 73, based on a scenario with “high relevance” to current events.

Glover told Variety that there was “something of a plan” for a fifth installment of the action series, but admitted that “the story changes quickly” so nothing is set in stone .

The star last played homicide detective Roger Murtaugh in 1998. Lethal Weapon 4 and I had the chance to read a new script earlier this year.

He said: “I thought the plot had a very strong connection to some of the things that are happening today. I can say it.

Glover hinted that the film could address the impact of the Black Lives Matter movement and widespread protests against police brutality.

He said: “It would be interesting to see how we take this in the political framework we find ourselves in; the economic framework in which we find ourselves.

“And especially that framework, as opposed to the communities that have been affected by the type of police violence, the type of police norms and the power that they wield as well.

“What would be interesting from that perspective is what that attempt might look like at that particular moment.”

Glover said he would like to see the franchise “face the problem head on” in its fifth and final film.

The star has been a strong campaigner for civil rights issues and has testified before Congress in favor of providing reparations for America's history of slavery and racial discrimination.

The original Deadly weapon The film, written by Shane Black and directed by Richard Donner, follows Murtaugh as he is reluctantly partnered with Mel Gibson's loose cannon, Riggs.

It was previously confirmed that Glover and Gibson wanted to appear in another outing, reprising some of their most iconic roles.

Donner is also reportedly on board for the fifth film, which is currently expected to be titled Deadly finale.

News of a return to the film franchise comes after the Deadly weapon The TV series – which starred Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans as Riggs and Murtaugh – was canceled last year after three seasons.

American pie Actor Seann William Scott replaced Crawford alongside Wayans for the third season after allegations of on-set misconduct.
