Daniel Jones raves about the New York Giants' offensive weapon

The New York Giants offense should offer little resemblance in the first week of the 2024 season to the team that left the field to close out the 2023 campaign.

Daniel Jones, quarterback. The NFL's New York Giants held an organized team activity at their practice facility in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

After all, All-Pro running back Saquon Barkley is a Philadelphia Eagle, tight end Darren Waller is retired and there could even be some shuffling along the offensive line.

In quarterback Daniel Jones' supporting cast, perhaps the biggest upgrade the Giants can expect is the impact of first-round pick and former LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers, considered by many to be the best receiver in this year's class, not named Marvin Harrison Jr.

Malik Nabers makes a strong first impression with the New York Giants

At right, Steve Smith, a former professional NFL wide receiver, works with receivers Jalin Hyatt and Malik Nabers. The NFL's New York Giants held an organized team activity at their practice facility in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Thursday, May 30, 2024.

The Giants selected Nabers, after being unable to come away with a franchise quarterback at No. 6 overall or by trading up, but the rookie quarterback couldn't be more impressed with what he saw during OTA and minicamp practices this spring.

“I mean, he can do anything,” Jones told reporters of Nabers’ impact. “There’s not much he can’t do from a road racing standpoint. He is dynamic with the ball in his hands and strong, fast, explosive, catches the ball well. Yes, he is doing very well.

At six-foot, 200 pounds, Nabers caught 89 of second overall pick Jaylen Daniels' passes last season for 1,569 yards with 14 touchdowns in Baton Rouge last fall.

Perhaps, though, what gives Nabers the chance to have the biggest impact on the Giants' offense — and Jones' trajectory — is the fact that Nabers has caught 19 deep passes and forced 30 missed tackles, according to Pro Football Focus, introducing a big play element of the vertical passing game that was sorely lacking in New York.

“I think he can be a great weapon for us,” Jones said of Nabers. “He had a good spring. He looks good and has made a lot of plays. You know, it takes time and work and we're going to put that into it.

East Rutherford, NJ — May 10, 2024 — The Giants' number one draft pick is wide receiver Malik Nabers as the New York Giants hold their rookie camp and showcase their new draft picks.
