GREENFIELD — A free screening of the Frontline documentary “Sex Trafficking in America” will be offered at Garden Cinemas on Wednesday, May 29 at 6 p.m.

The screening is part of a community education initiative undertaken by the Northwest District Attorney's Office in collaboration with the Hampshire County and Franklin County/North Quabbin County Child Advocacy Centers.

The documentary follows investigations into human trafficking cases and features interviews with survivors of human trafficking as well as members of law enforcement. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion that will feature a human trafficking survivor, staff members from both child advocacy centers and Northampton Police Operations Captain Victor Caputo.

Funding for the screening comes from a $60,141 grant from the state's Anti-Human Trafficking and Training Program aimed at raising awareness of exploitation among mandated reporters, school and medical personnel and the community commercial sexual exploitation of children, the complications of such investigations and how the community can help keep children safe.

This grant will also fund training for local law enforcement with the goal of developing a regional cadre of investigators with advanced skills in obtaining digital evidence and the technological expertise necessary to conduct complex trafficking investigations. human being.
