Cyclist killed by vehicle in Long Beach identified

A 42-year-old man riding a bicycle who was fatally struck by a vehicle in Long Beach was identified Saturday.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Keith Moore.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Seventh Street and Bellflower Boulevard around 5:05 a.m. Friday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“Officers discovered an unconscious adult bicyclist lying on the south sidewalk of Seventh Street,” according to a statement from the LBPD. “Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and determined the cyclist was deceased.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the cyclist was traveling eastbound on lane three of Seventh Street when he was struck from behind by a vehicle that was also traveling eastbound on lane three,” according to the LBPD.

“The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” police said. “At this time, neither speed, distracted driving, nor impaired driving are believed to be contributing factors in the collision.”
