Police said they responded to Stanislaus Street and Van Ness Avenue on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. after receiving several calls about a cyclist who had been hit by a car.

Upon arrival, responding officers reported Ortega was on the ground in the roadway suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives say the motorist involved remained at the scene and attempted to help Ortega while officers responded.

Investigators say drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision.
