Traffic advisory for the week from 06/03/2024 to 06/07/2024

EASTERN KERN, INYO and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following work and traffic impacts for the week of June 3-7.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials and/or construction issues.

New impacts on traffic

Eastern Kern County

  • Tehachapi Valley traffic disruption – On State Route 58 between Tehachapi Boulevard and Sand Canyon Road near Tehachapi, there will be a traffic stoppage overnight to allow crews to pull cables across the highway. The work is scheduled for Monday from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Drivers may experience brief delays.
  • Traffic disruption in Mojave – On State Route 14, from the junction with State Route 58 to the north junction with Business Route 58, traffic interruptions will be provided to assist utility crews crossing the cables above the road . The work is scheduled for Wednesday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Drivers may experience brief delays.
  • Ridgecrest Traffic Interruption – On State Route 178 E, between S. Broadway Street and S. Richmond Road, traffic interruptions will be provided to allow utility crews to cross the cables above the road. The work is scheduled for Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Drivers may experience brief delays.
  • Ridgecrest Utility Works – On State Route 178 E between S. Broadway Street and S. Richmond Road, utility work will take place on the shoulders Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Crossing work on Boulevard Rosamond – On Rosamond Boulevard running north from Edwards Air Force Base on State Route 58, construction crews will work on the shoulders Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be intermittent lane closures and drivers may experience short delays.

Inyo County

  • State Route 168 Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Project – On State Route 168 W (West Line Street) between Sunland Drive and Pioneer Lane in Bishop, the westbound shoulder will be closed while crews work on curbs and pedestrian ramps Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. .

Ongoing impacts on traffic

Eastern Kern County

  • Ridgecrest Sewer Replacement – On State Route 178 E between French Avenue and Gemstone Street, crews continue to restore the roadway Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be intermittent lane closures. Detours will be available. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Inyo County

  • Olancha-Cartago Traffic Switches – There are two traffic switches on US 395 for the Olancho-Cartago project. At the south end of the project area, there is a traffic interchange between Sage Flats Road and N Haiwee Road. At the northern end of the project area, there is a traffic interchange north of Cartago. The speed limit is reduced to 45 MPH with new alignments for driver safety. Drivers may experience short delays.
  • Olancha Shoulder Closures – On US 395, at the junction with State Route 190 in Olancha, there will be intermittent shoulder closures to allow access for trucks to deliver materials Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mono County

  • Sonora Junction Shoulders Project – On US 395 between Burcham Flat Road and Sonora Junction, there will be one-way traffic control as work continues on the Sonora Junction Shoulders project. Work is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday. Drivers may experience delays of up to 20 minutes.

The $16.8 million Sonora Junction Shoulders project was funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA), also known as the Bipartisan infrastructure. Under the IIJA, California will receive approximately $41.9 billion over five years. The IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California's transportation system, including supporting improvements to roads, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, improving infrastructure safety, and increasing the resilience of infrastructure to the impacts of bad weather and climate change. Travelers are asked to be alert for workers on the highway, slow down to reach the cone area and move over as much as possible to give further clearance. Be safe and be vigilant in the work area!
