Cuba joins international trial against Israel for alleged genocide in Gaza

ANKARA: Cuba decided on Friday to join South Africa's case against Israel before the International Court of Justice, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.

Radio Havana Cuba reported that, in accordance with its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Cuba will exercise its right as a third state to present its interpretation of the convention, which Israel allegedly violated blatantly in the Gaza Strip. .

The case aims to put an end to atrocities committed against the Palestinian people due to Israel's disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force in the illegally occupied territory of Gaza.

Cuba stressed that Israel, protected by American complicity, has systematically ignored its obligations as an occupying power under the Geneva Convention, he reported.

Cuba said genocide, apartheid, forced displacement and collective punishment have no place in today's world and should not be tolerated by the international community. He called for justice and respect for the United Nations Charter and international law.

Israel is accused of genocide by the International Court of Justice, whose latest ruling ordered Tel Aviv to immediately suspend its operations in Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians had sought refuge fleeing war before its invasion in May .

Ignoring a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire, Israel has been condemned by the international community for its continued brutal offensive on Gaza, which has killed more than 37,000 Palestinians and has injured more than 85,000 since October 7.
