Crookston man faces additional charges in alleged rape of intoxicated woman – Grand Forks Herald

POLK COUNTY, Minn. — A Crookston man arrested in October for allegedly raping an intoxicated woman faces two additional related charges.

Susano Isaiah Padilla, 21, was initially charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

An amended criminal complaint filed Tuesday, July 2, added one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for penetration, causing injury and use of force and one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct for penetration, causing injury and use of force.

A sexual assault was reported by the alleged victim's roommate at 1:18 a.m. on Oct. 3, according to a probable cause statement filed in the case.

The woman went to the emergency room for an evaluation. Later that day, law enforcement reviewed the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) report. The report listed bruises on the woman's neck and chest, abrasions on her back and injuries to her genitals.

She told law enforcement she remembered Padilla hitting her in the back and throwing her around, the statement said.

“She couldn't do anything, she couldn't control anything, she had drunk way too much,” the statement said.

Padilla is scheduled to make his first appearance on the additional charges at 9 a.m. July 11.
