Crime in Houston, Texas: Man arrested after shooting at police

When officers entered the home, they found two children hiding in an upstairs closet, unharmed. A woman was found dead inside from a gunshot wound.

HOUSTON — A man is in custody after shooting at Houston police officers outside a home in Kingwood Sunday afternoon, according to the Houston Police Department.

Officers responded after receiving two calls about an assault and possible shooting at a home on Babbling Creek Drive near W. Lake Houston Pkwy.

HPD Deputy Chief Jessica Anderson said a neighbor told the dispatcher that a man outside the home told them to call the police.

When officers arrived on scene, they immediately began to catch fire, according to Anderson.

Anderson said an officer's vehicle was shot seven times from multiple calibers. At one point, the suspect stopped shooting and approached officers with his hands raised and was arrested.

When officers entered the home, they found two children hiding in an upstairs closet, unharmed. A woman was found dead inside from a gunshot wound.

The suspect and victim, along with the two children, were related, according to Anderson. She said the woman was in her 20s.

Officers believe the suspect may have been experiencing a mental breakdown based on what he told them.
