Crews stop 55-acre Pittsburg bush fire from advancing

PITTSBURG — Crews continued to battle a 55-acre fire in Pittsburg that was 50% contained just after 8 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

KPIX

Just before 5 p.m., Con Fire reported being on scene of a building on fire at 2225 John Henry Johnson Pkwy. The flames had spread to a grassy area and a vegetation fire was started.

“There was a shed-like structure at the top of the hill that was on fire, and then the surrounding grass was about 50 acres,” said Victor Daniel, fire prevention captain at ConFire. “There's a trail there. Luckily there was no one on the trail when we arrived.”

Juan, who lives a few blocks from where firefighters were responding to the flames, said he has lived in his home for 12 years and has never experienced a fire like this.

“I went out and saw a fire blazing,” Juan said. “Honestly, I just thought we were going to evacuate because it’s pretty dry out there.”

Juan and his neighbors did not need to evacuate, as firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading.

“We were worried about the embers and the wind carrying those embers to (the neighborhoods),” Daniel said. “We are just at the very beginning of the fire season. This incident alone could have spread to 100 acres.”
