Crews search for missing 3-year-old girl from Johnson County

Police said the 3-year-old went missing shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, June 7.

FRANKLIN, Ind. — A 3-year-old girl reported missing Friday afternoon has been found safe, police say.

Police said the 3-year-old girl went missing from a campsite around 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Emergency personnel were searching the area in the 2600 block of County Road 725 East near Franklin.

Shortly after 9 p.m., the Johnson County Sheriff's Office shared an update on its Facebook page saying the child had been found safe and being treated by emergency personnel.

Amber Alert and Silver Alert: What is the difference?

There are specific standards that a missing person must meet for police to declare an Amber Alert or Silver Alert.

Amber Alerts are for children under the age of 18 who are suspected of having been abducted and are in danger. Police also must have information about a suspect and their car to issue an Amber Alert.

Silver Alerts are for missing and endangered adults or children. They are much more common when it comes to missing people. It was only last year that the standards for Silver Alerts were expanded to include children.

In both cases, these alerts must be issued by the police.
