Crews respond to 2-alarm fire at northwest Amarillo motel

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Several people and at least one dog were evacuated from a northwest Amarillo motel Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in the 800 block of North Jefferson Street.

According to officials at the scene, firefighters responded to the 800 block of North Jefferson Street and West Amarillo Boulevard around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday after several calls reporting smoke coming from the Star Lodge Motel. A double fire alarm was triggered, prompting eight units to respond to the scene.

Amarillo Fire Department officials said at least one dog was rescued from one of the motel's units and several people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, although no one was injured. was hospitalized following the fire.

No details were immediately available on the cause of the fire, although firefighters said the fire was considered under control around 9:40 a.m.

Community members passing through the area Tuesday morning should be aware of possible first responders or emergency vehicles on or near the roadway around the fire scene, as well as possible delays or detours.
