Crews report no injuries after overnight fire destroys garage

It appears the fire spread from a garage attached to the home on Lucas Drive SW.

GRANDVILLE, Mich. — Firefighters extinguished a fire at a Grandville home early Friday morning, but not before it destroyed a garage and severely damaged the home.

The fire broke out after 2 a.m. Friday at a home in the 4400 block of Lucas Drive SW in Grandville, not far from Canal Avenue.

13 ON YOUR SIDE spoke with Kent County Central Dispatch just after 3:45 a.m. They tell us the homeowner was able to get everyone out of the house and no injuries were reported. Grandville firefighters on scene added that a total of four people and three pets were in the home at the time of the fire, but they were all able to get out safely.

A 13 ON YOUR SIDE crew on scene reported that the attached garage appeared to be destroyed, while the house was severely damaged.

Several vehicles parked in the nearby driveway also appear to have been damaged.

The fire chief on scene also told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that the heat from the fire melted the siding on a nearby home.

The fire is now out and crews are working to ensure no hot spots remain.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
