Crews put out house fires in Miami and North Miami – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

NORTH MIAMI, FLA. (WSVN) – The skies opened up across South Florida on Wednesday, but heavy rains did not stop fires from breaking out in homes across North Miami and Miami.

Ten Miami-Dade fire units responded to the scene of the first house fire near Northwest 130th Street and 10th Avenue in North Miami just before 9:25 a.m.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the south side of the structure.

Firefighters quickly doused the flames to put out the fire. Crews noticed gas cylinders that had ignited from the fire, so they pulled a second hose to cool the tanks.

The local utility company was called to secure a downed power line and secure utilities to the home.

At approximately 3:35 p.m., City of Miami fire crews responded to the scene of a second house fire in the southwest area of 64th Court and Fifth Avenue.

Crews arrived at the fire scene to search the single-story home with smoke coming from the rear.

A 7News viewer sent cellphone video of the smoke and flames.

Firefighters extended hoses to the rear of the property and observed an exterior fire. They also rescued a dog from a backseat. All other residents were evacuated before crews arrived.

American Red Cross volunteers are helping five adults and three children displaced by the fire.

The Miami Fire Investigation Unit was also asked to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported in either fire.
