Crews extinguish fire in Swansea High School storage room – Boston News, Weather, Sports

SWANSEA, MASS. (WHDH) – Firefighters extinguished a fire that ripped through a storage room at a Swansea high school Thursday afternoon, according to the Swansea Fire Department.

At 2:55 p.m., firefighters were alerted to smoke inside Joseph Case High School after students had been dismissed for the day, the department said.

Firefighters discovered smoke near the ceiling of a first-floor hallway, then discovered a fire in a nearby warehouse, according to fire officials. Firefighters brought several fire hoses into the hallway and were able to contain the fire to one room.

Because the campus was damaged by fire and smoke, the school will be closed Friday for cleaning, firefighters said.

“The companies did an excellent job of extending multiple help lines into the building, finding the source of the fire and limiting the fire to a single warehouse,” Swansea Fire Chief Eric Hajder said. , in a press release.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire, however, appears to be accidental, firefighters said.
