Crews continue to search for missing man last seen at Thiensville Dam | Ozaukee Co. News

THIENSVILLE — Search efforts continued Thursday for the man who went missing in the Milwaukee River near Thiensville Dam Wednesday evening.

The South Ozaukee Fire Department and Thiensville Police Department shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man in distress in the Milwaukee River. According to a SOFD press release released Thursday afternoon, the man entered the river to save his dog. No other subjects are suspected of being involved.

Units from both departments arrived on scene at the Thiensville Dam within minutes of being dispatched, and due to the complexity and technicality of the incident, the fire department's fire commander requested additional resources from several neighboring departments, including the Milwaukee Fire Department and the Port Washington Fire Department. The department's diving teams.

Rescue operations were carried out for an hour and a half in the Thiensville dam area, but despite all efforts, the man was not found due to dangerous water conditions, inaccessibility of a low head dam, weather and sunlight constraints, according to the press release.

Fire personnel were on hand to monitor the area throughout Wednesday evening and additional firefighters arrived to assist with continued search operations Thursday morning. The Wisconsin DNR and Ozaukee County Emergency Management provided expert assistance using their SONAR submersible device and aerial drone.

“We have a heavy heart over this tragic situation and, accordingly, we extend our condolences to the family and friends of the victim,” SOFD wrote.

Search operations continue with assistance from the Wisconsin DNR. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
