Crews contain homes threatening fires in Osceola County, officials say – WFTV

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Florida — 10:30 p.m. Update:

Fire crews contained the blaze that threatened homes in Kissimmee, firefighters said.

Officials said the fire broke out Thursday but was contained until strong winds from the south reignited it Friday.

The fire was blowing from south to north and west to east and came within a meter of a few houses, firefighters said.

Embers fell on the roof of a house.

The main concern was that there was an auto garage nearby that stored Tesla batteries.

Crews from other counties were called in to protect that line.

A fire in Osceola County is currently threatening structures, according to the Florida Forest Service.

As of 7:20 p.m. Friday, Florida Forest Service crews were battling the fire at Orange Blossom Trail and Woodland Creek Boulevard.

Fire officials said the fire is currently 10 acres in size and is 50 percent contained.

Osceola County Fire Department crews are working to protect nearby homes.

The cause of the fire remains to be determined.

FFS officials encourage people to call 911 or the Florida Forest Service if they see smoke.
